Project 02/2025
On February 24, 2025, a group of eight volunteers set out from cold Germany for Uganda – which, even by Ugandan standards, was unusually hot at the time. Carrying more than half a ton of relief supplies, such as sewing machines, laptops, mobile phones, and financial aid, we were welcomed in Kampala by our Ugandan project leader Malik and driver Fred.
During their 14-day tour, the group visited 13 schools in Kampala, Gulu, and the Bukomansimbi District. These schools were provided with a large number of school desks, math sets, Afripads, pens and notebooks, as well as financial support. One of the highlights was the inauguration ceremony of the sanitary facility built in 2024 and the school kitchen completed in 2025 at the first partner school between Saxony and Uganda, the Bastion High School in Kampala.
In addition, we visited our partner projects: the “Fighters for Freedom Boxing Club” led by boxing coach Kidega in Gulu, the “Give a Chance Ghetto Kids” by social worker Benedict in Kampala/Kamwookya, and the Kyempapu Project by Sylvia Namukasa in Kirinda/Bukomansimbi. We also had the opportunity to present our goals for voluntary social work in Uganda at the German Embassy in Kampala.
The team members this time were Annett, Michael, Katja, Katrin, Frank S., Hartmuth, Sebastian, and Frank M. On day 5, retired Polish art teacher Katarzyna joined our tour.
Already during the journey, new ideas were developed in line with our motto “help for self-help,” and many new contacts were made.
All participants agreed: the gratitude we repeatedly receive from the people – especially the children – in Uganda makes every effort worthwhile.
Project 02/2024
A group of nine people set off for Uganda in February. Packed with more than half a ton of relief supplies, such as used sewing machines, laptops and cell phones, we were welcomed by project manager Malik. In 14 days, the group was able to supply 25 schools around Kampala with a large number of school desks, math kits, Afripads and pens, as well as visiting the boxing club in Gulu and Sylvia Namukasa’s farm in Bukomansimbi.
The team members were Malik, Michael, Annett as well as the students Jil, Liska, Christina and Chantal, Gert, Hartmuth and DjaDja Edi.
The trip was a complete success and left a noticeable and lasting impression on the students from Germany, who had never been to Uganda before.
