Self-sufficiency for the NoJ

Update project 5/2025 Self-sufficiency for the NoJ

After a very short construction period supervised by Musa & Malik, the new stable building was inaugurated on 25.06.2025 with the arrival of 100 chicks. This means that the problem of providing food at the Nest Of Joy can be solved more easily in future. The animals are now housed according to good standards and protected, the water supply is ensured all year round by the new water tank and there was also a first donation of feed as a boost. The inauguration was attended by Musa and the children and young people at the Nest Of Joy.

The next group traveling to Uganda will certainly celebrate the success of the project together on site.

We would like to thank all the donors, contributors and Annett & Michael for their tireless presentation work, without which such projects would not be possible.

These young people come from families who are unable to pay school fees, are orphans, street children or have already experienced violence and prostitution.

During Musa’s tour and after listening to volunteer Kate’s descriptions, we realized the biggest problem: if there are no school fees, there is no food. Neither for teachers nor for children. The first plans for possible self-sufficiency under the local conditions were forged together with Musa during the night on our return to Kampala. It’s good to have not only musicians and do-gooders but also experienced farmers like Katrin & Frank S. in the team.

Back in Germany, the first concepts were sent back and forth, revised and a decision was made by the Quicklebendig working group: Let’s tackle the construction of a poultry farm and with a good standard for the animals. Firstly, this will provide food and secondly, animal husbandry can also become part of the training of the young people at the Nest of Joy.

Work began as early as 19 May 2025 with the delivery of a 10,000-liter tank for the future water supply for the animals under the supervision of project manager Malik. Just a few days later, the first foundations can be seen…
