In February 2020, the idea was born to build a recording studio in Kampala. With the help of some friends, we began collecting money and equipment. By October 2020, the project had taken off—producing a music album that anyone can purchase to support our mission of providing school desks for ghetto schools.
Project leader Malik, who also grew up in the slums, reached out to kids aged 8 to 16 from these schools, asking if they wanted to sing on the album. The response was enthusiastic! Eight kids, coached by Lil Kay, found joy in the music. What resulted is likely the only global music project from the ghetto, for the ghetto, produced by Malik in his studio in Kampala. With contributions from four Ugandan musicians and five musicians from Germany, everything was mixed between the studios in Kampala and Pausa, Germany.
Now, anyone can buy this remarkable album featuring original songs by ghetto kids for just €20/$18 and contribute to a good cause.
Thanks to the proceeds from this project, 800 school desks have already been produced, and the story continues. Since summer 2021, we have been working on Part II, “Seeds for the Future”, and six new titles are already ready.
Join the journey—buy the album and support the ghetto kids!
