One of our main goals is to improve the hygiene situation for adolescent girls at Ugandan schools so they can attend school continuously. Raising money for school fees is already a major challenge for parents, let alone covering the costs of menstrual hygiene. As a result, girls often miss several weeks of school during the academic year, which can lead to significantly poorer graduation outcomes compared to boys.
Immediately after school resumed following the holidays, project leader Malik distributed hundreds of reusable Afripads at Kulumba High School in the Kawempe district and at Flying Angel School in the Kamwookya district of the capital city, Kampala. The joy of the girls, most of whom come from the surrounding ghettos, is clearly visible on their faces.
