Update Project 04/2025
Project manager Malik began work on site on 01.05.2025. True to our motto “supporting regional economic cycles”, for example, no ready-made beds were purchased or rare wood used, but durable metal beds were manufactured on site by local craftsmen under Malik’s supervision. Despite power outages, 10 painted double-decker beds and 20 mattresses were delivered to social worker Benedict & the give a chance ghetto kids in Kamwookya on May 14 and the dormitory equipment was completed.
Quote from one of our project participants:
“We were there and it was surreal, like an oasis in the desert, just a simple normal place in the middle of misery. You have to support people who have the courage and empathy to create something like this on their own. These are the lighthouses in the ghettos, whose light gives many people courage and confidence. And a future for some children. We spoke to Benedict for a long time, he is a very modest and kind-hearted man. Let’s support him!” Frank S.
Project 04/2025
Kamwookya is the largest ghetto in Kampala, some say it is also the most terrible.
In the midst of these conditions, there is a very small oasis: the refuge give a chance for the ghetto children under the direction of Benedict. Children and young people find temporary shelter there, receive some food and a daily structure with tasks such as sewing and making braids.
We have been there regularly on previous social trips, handed over donations and were able to accompany the development of some of the children. During our last visit in 03/2025, we particularly noticed that there is only one bed for 20 children and it is in a pitiful state. The children who have to spend the night there are orphans, homeless, fleeing violence and prostitution or more.
Our decision was clear and quickly made: Who, if not us?
At the end of April, work began on a new dormitory under the direction of Malik in collaboration with Benedict.
